IT'S TIME for a THEATRE in KATOOMBA - NOW!

Katoomba hasn't had a theatre for 60 years. The residents have been trying to get one for over 30 years. We now have a unique opportunity for positive progress with leadership and a community centred approach by Katoomba Theatre Company Ltd. - not for profit. They have put forward a proposal to the local Council to convert the empty 'shell' of the old local library and turn it in to a 200 seat theatre, with minimal cost. KTC have fundraised over $16,000 with the help of the business and tourism communities. This has already had positive economic effects and allowed for the creation of a Youth Theatre programme (the first ever in Katoomba) for the kids as well as jobs for teachers. KTC have held 27 public events with over 4000 people attending. KTC have done all this as volunteers to try and improve the state of performing arts opportunities in our community. Katoomba is a tourist town and yet, there's not even a proper theatre for them to go out to at night to enhance their stay. We ask you to help support this grass-roots campaigne. The local Council has the budget of $500,000-$250,000 and KTC have $150,000 worth of lights and equipment donated to fitout the theatre. It sounds great, except for one thing, the Blue Mountains City Council has to vote on this. They want to hold back the town and deny the rate paying residents and visitors something that should have been here decades ago. Help us to show that a theatre is an integral part of any community and essential to the life and prosperity of any town centre. Our kids deserve it. NOW!

Dear Blue Mountains City Council,

I would like to voice my support for a theatre to be built in the shell of the old Katoomba Library. There is an urgency to this and it should be completed as fast as it possibly can. You have the budget, the community has the will and experise and you have to listen to the will of the people - it's called democracy!

Yours sincerely,
