Petition Against Michigan:HB 4714 which would ban pit bulls

  • by: Casey Hiatt
  • recipient: State Representative Tim Bledsoe
I've created this petition against HB 4714 because like any other organism on this planet "Pit Bulls" of any breed are not born inherently vicious. It's the people that own these animals that either directly (by purchasing or breeding with the sole intent to make them mean)  or indirectly (by negligence or improper training)  influence these beautiful creatures. It is wrong to punish these animals by banning they're right to breed, we don't tell criminals in this country that they can't have kids, why should it be any different for a dog who in reality has no way to defend itself against these stereotypical accusations?
This bill defines pit bulls as American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and any other dog that looks like one of these. The first year after the legislation is enacted, it will be illegal to breed or sell pit bulls in Michigan. The fourth year after enactment, all pit bulls in the state must be neutered. The tenth year after enactment, it will be illegal to possess a pit bull in the state.
From my understanding these people must not have taken the time to properly educate & familiarize themselves with the breed, an ignorance is no excuse for injustice.
We the undersigned have fully read an understand Michigan: HB 4714 and in doing so have come to the conclusion that it is not the right course of action to take in regards to the issue. We believe it is unjust and inhumane to implement these "precautions" when no other courses of action have been considered or put into legislation. This petition was created for the sole purpose of stopping this bill in order to reconsider other options. We would like to thank you for taking the time to read this and we hope that we can come to a compromise of sorts to avoid this injustice.
