Ensure Protection Of The Eastern Massasauga Rattle Snake Under Endangered Species Act

All creatures are here for a reason and that includes the Eastern Massasauga Rattle Snake but this rare species is highly in danger of extinction.  There are currently more than 757 species of snakes but this snake has been waiting for protection for more than 30 years.

A professional who has been working to protect rare reptiles and amphibians has stated that “As wetlands have been drained and destroyed, the Massasauga has disappeared with them. Endangered Species Act protection for this beautiful snake will help safeguard its future, and will also help save the wetlands that people need for flood-control and water filtration. Protection under the federal Endangered Species Act is the best way to save the eastern Massasauga, she continues. Federal listing would protect the snake’s remaining wetland habitats and help people understand that they should leave these shy snakes alone.”

The Massasauga is losing much of its habitat and since they are not long-distance travelers, they cannot find their way to other safe areas without being in danger of roads and other obstacles. Their main habitat is within the wetlands of various areas like Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Ontario, Canada.
