The Trump Administration is shaping up to be one of the most conservative in American history. Among Trump's appointments are billionaires who have taken extreme right-wing positions and actions on issues they will now be overseeing if the Senate confirms President Trump's selections.
One of the worst is the billionaire Betsy DeVos. Trump has nominated DeVos to be his Secretary of Education. DeVos has a long history of attacking public education, supporting the privatization of public schools, and funding various right-wing groups to promote her anti-public education agenda.
Under the guise of "school choice," DeVos has made it clear she intends to use her position of Secretary of Education to move billions of dollars in federal funding to states that will implement her privatization agenda.
And yet, Betsy DeVos has never been an educator or a professional in the education system. She has zero knowledge of what it is like to be in a classroom or administer a school district. Her only qualification is making large donations to the Michigan Republican Party -- and embracing Donald Trump.
As a former public school teacher, I know firsthand the lasting damage the Trump-DeVos policies will do to public education. Trump-DeVos are ready to wreak havoc on America's children while furthering their own selfish interests.
It's critical we stand up to Trump by urging the United States Senate to REJECT the nomination of unqualified Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education. The future of our children is riding on defeating her nomination before she gets her hands on the levers of power in the federal government.
