As most people are aware, the Montekristo "Animal Park" is one of the latest business ventures of the Polidano Group, which is undeniably a great force to be reckoned with here in Malta as one of the largest property developers on the island, as well as a group that has its fingers in many pies in the local economy.
Don’t let the name Montekristo animal park fool you, for this is no animal park. Once you visit this place, you will see that this is nothing but a confined space made of steel & concrete in which exotic animals are placed there to face endless years of boredom & deprivation of their basic animal needs.
The treatment of these beautiful creatures takes our country back a 100 years !! The only care the Polidano Group has in these animals is that they aid to fatten its pockets. The group even has the audacity of justifying its atrocious acts by insisting that if it weren't for their "animal park", the Maltese children who never travel won’t be able to view these animal species live, but fail to pay attention to the needs of the animals themselves.
The Polidano Group is well known and reputed as being a financially stable company, with a lot of ventures in many fields. Why do they need to destroy the lives of these animals, and be a bad example to the young members of our society for pocket change? There are so many better ways of utilizing the Montekristo grounds rather than importing exotic animals, and placing them in tiny enclosed spaces with nothing to do except pace up & down their cage compulsively all day long!
The Maltese government recently passed a law forbidding animal circuses from coming to Malta due to the bad treatment of these animals, and yet it is here contradicting itself by allowing an animal park. Malta never had any animal park/zoo... let’s fight to keep it that way.
