Stand with Women: Urge Premier MacLauchlan to Provide On-Island Access to Surgical Abortions in PEI.

In the province of PEI women must go off-island to receive surgical abortions. While the government will pay for the procedure it does not pay for travel time or travel costs. For low-income and high risk women, travelling off-island to receive an abortion is not an option. In every other province in Canada, women are able to access local surgical abortions.

By signing this petition you are standing with women's rights to access and care. Women must have affordable and accessible surgical abortion options so they are not driven to desperate moves which can cause serious harm.

More Information:

The province of PEI has always taken a stand against on-island abortion services. Currently, abortion advocates are suing the government, for the second time in 10 years, for access to abortion services on-island. Abortion access must be part of a comprehensive women's reproductive heath program to ensure the health and safety of women everywhere in Canada.

We, the undersigned, stand with the women of PEI and the Federal Minister of Health in demanding on-island access to abortion in your province. 


We recognize that if women have to take time off work and pay travel expenses to leave the island to access abortions that they might not do it and may take other, dangerous actions to end the pregnancy.

Good news! Thanks to you and 18000+ people who signed my Care2 petition, the government of PEI has finally decided to allow on-island abortions. Your compassion will help women all over PEI! But even with this victory, plenty of work remains to fight for Canadian women's rights . Can you sign this petition for a public reprimand of the judge in the Jian Ghomeshi trial for his victim-blaming statement to the court, too?"
