Ask Al Franken NOT to resign. Demand an ethics investigation!

Resigning at this juncture is bad for women and bad for the country. There are a number of reasons why Senator Franken should not resign:
    1) We need to establish a procedure for dealing with such accusations and there must be DUE PROCESS. If we do not establish that, how can we hold Trump/Moore responsible? They will never acknowledge wrongdoing and will not resign. There must be a process in place for investigating accusations, And, Senator Franken, deserve an ethics investigation before deciding an appropriate response.
    2) Not all transgressions are equal or require the same response. What Senator Franken have/may have done does not rise to the level of Trump and Moores acts of violence, and should not require the same response.
    3) This hurts women! If we have a knee-jerk response that requires men to resign as soon as there is an accusation, the public will see it as a witch-hunt and unreasonable, and it will discredit the serious problem of sexual harassment and assault. Plus, Franken is a champion for all the issues that impact women's lives, so it will hurt women to lose him in the Senate.
    4) The original accuser has her own problematic history that discredits her version of events. Further, her support of Trump makes suspect her reasons for coming forward. Only a fair investigation can determine what actually happened and what level of offense it is.
    5) This sets a very convenient precedent that the GOP can use to go after Democrats, digging up or fabricating such accusations to force them out of office. Don't think they won't do it!
    6) As long as Trump is not being held to account and Moore is still a candidate, the Democrats have no reason stake out the moral high ground throw Senator Franken should not throw himself on the pyre of outrage just because he is the low hanging fruit! Plus, this creates a false equivalency between extremely different levels of impropriety. This is a gross injustice.
    7) This may also hurt women because this atmosphere where there is no due process and men feel targeted will potentially lead to companies hiring fewer women in order to avoid "problems"
    8) Finally, our country desperately needs Senator Franken in the Senate. Too much is at stake for the Senator to become a casualty of an environment that has created an exaggerated response to even a whiff of impropriety. Yes, sexual harassment and assault is a huge problem, but it will not be solved by denying due process for accused men. That will only will lead to other problems and backlash. Let's slow down and think this through a bit more! SENATOR FRANKEN MUST REMAIN IN THE SENATE AND HELP CREATE A PRECEDENT FOR HANDLING SUCH ACCUSATIONS.
