Ban The Use Of Conversion Therapy On LGBTQ+ Minors in Alabama!

There are parents who send their LGBTQ+ children away to receive “treatment” -- known as Conversion or Reparative Therapy -- that has been called mental and physical torture by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Sadly, in 48 states, this is legal for parents to do.

Conversion therapy is used for something that has not been considered a mental disorder since the American Psychological Association disclaimed it in 1974. Yet, the use of this therapy has been on the rise more since then than ever before.

Children under the LGBTQ+ umbrella are constantly at risk of being subjected to this therapy because a countless number of these facilities are off the radar, often having no licenses or certifications for their practices. Some of the therapy's treatments include electroshock therapy to the hands, torso, or genitals, exorcism, institutionalization and isolation from society, and much more.

There is no true evidence of Conversion Therapy, or CT, being successful, and there is a large amount of evidence showing that it causes mental disorders for patients in the future.

While Conversion Therapy may be a choice for many adults, children should not be subjected to this practice by force. Conversion Therapy is a psychologically and/or physically harmful practice that should be made illegal for anyone under the age of 18 in the state of Alabama.
