Year after year, hundreds of innocent dogs are being rounded up and poisoned on Koh Samui.
Dogs, Puppies and especially pregnant bitches are taken to a reservoir on the South of the Island when they are no longer wanted by the locals. It is around that reservoir that bags of meat get dropped off, laced with rat poison and the innocent dogs ingest the cowardly toxin – up to 20 dogs were killed during a tragic episode like this last November – and, it STILL continues.
More recently, a local activist who runs around the lake each morning came across a dead dog with his legs brutally tied together. Local residents have been burying murdered dogs in the area and the relentless cruelty is getting out of hand - it MUST stop.
When rat poison is consumed by dogs, it immediately starts to melt the internal organs and the pain inflicted is just unimaginable. What’s more, burying intoxicated, diseased animals in mass around the reservoir will surely be affecting the safety of the all-important island water source.
Local activists have been vaccinating and sterilizing dogs to help them live healthy, happy lives whilst still attempting to resolve the overpopulation concern. This should be the only way forward! It can work and will work but for it to do so, the slaughter must end.
Signing this petition will help bring the issue to the forefront of the local and international community and will be the first step in putting an end to the barbaric act. We want the local government to join and support us in our sterilization program and help us bring the stray population down in an organized and humane way.
