THE NEED FOR A GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

For the health, happiness and prosperity of all students, we need a guidance counselor. Please read the petition description.

-Panteha Abareshi, 10th Grade

Here at BASIS we are strong community, not only because the class sizes are comparatively small, but also because every student can relate to how much stress and pressure there is on each and every one of us.  As teenagers, it is often easiest to speak to someone separated from the situation, and from the day-to-day acedemic life. To know that there is someone we are able to see, and speak to about anything and everything, ranging from emotional to acedemic, to domestic dificulties will not only creat a safer, and healthier envorioment, but will also alleviate much of the stresses and pressures we feel as BASIS students. Many of us will agree that with the stress of high school, it becomes so easy to get lost in the sea of assignments, and pressure from both our home, social, and academic life. We have all seen others break down at lunch, or in the bathroom becuase the lack of sleep, excess of homework and assesments, and on top of that a sub-standard grade has become too much to handle. And of course, we've all felt like we're in that position as well. It is not our friend's, or our responsibility to actual counseling and guidance, though we try our best. Neither is it the Admin's responsibility. There are, of course, the teachers that we vent to, but no one at the the school is a actually liscenced, or able to devote their full attention to our non-acedemic, emotional needs.

So this is why we, the BASIS Upperschoolers, desparatly need a guidance counselor.
