Dark Truth About SeaWorld!

SeaWorld is a huge theme park that makes millions of dollars each year from the capturing, torturing, and killing of thousands of marine animals for our entertainment.

SeaWorld's orcas and other animals are captured from their pods and separated from their families, so that SeaWorld can make a profit. While capturing the animals many of them are injured, or even killed! In October of 1965, an orca named Shamu was captured when she was only a calf, and saw her mother killed right in front of her. She was taken to SeaWorld and forced to perform for 6 years before she died on August 23rd, 1971 because of a blood and uterus infection; that wouldn't have happened if she hadn't been in captivity.

The average lifespan of a wild orca is 30 to 50 years, but some males can live up to 70 and some females can live more than 100 years. At SeaWorld most orcas don't even make it to 14; some orcas have died before their first birthday!

Once the orcas are captured, they are mistreated, forced to preform, and live in a small tank with other orcas from unfamiliar pods; it's like living in prison! Living in these confined spaces creates emotional distress on these otherwise peacefully giants and they have been known to become aggressive in captivity. Recently an orca named Katina sustained a huge gash to her dorsal fin, SeaWorld believes that it was caused by another orca that she was forced to live with, they wouldn't have fought like this in the wild.

The orca tanks in SeaWorld are about 35 feet deep and 170 feet long. Orcas are used to swimming 100 miles per day and dive about 1000 feet deep. SeaWorld's tanks are so shallow the orcas are unable to dive down deep enough to avoid the sun's radiation, so they get sunburned often. Workers at SeaWorld cover the orcas's skin with black zinc oxide to hide their burns so that visitors can't see how much the orcas are suffering. The shallow tanks also cause the orcas's dorsal fins to collapse, this is a sign of an injured or unhealthy orca; this rarely happens in the wild.

Please boycott SeaWorld and it's partners and urge them to allow their animals to retire to marine sanctuaries. Please help save the orcas and other animals who are suffering and dying all in the name of entertainment!
