Amazingly, it is still legal to discriminate against people on the basis of their gender identity if they happen to be transgender. Bill C-279, if passed, will establish gender identity and expression as a human right, protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
The bill will be debated this month (in April), and there has been little media coverage as of yet. Let's tell our elected representatives that the basic protections we've come to expect to ourselves have to extend to all our citizens, not only the traditionally gendered ones.
