Don't Let The Texas Puppy Mill Bill Die

A Puppy Mill Bill to protect dogs living in commercial breeding facilities has been approved by the Texas state House of Representatives.   H.B. 1451 is now in the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice which is chaired by Sen. John Whitmire.
Debate surrounding the bill is so heated, it may not make it to the Senate for a vote before the 2011 session ends.
Critics have put up every roadblock possible, saying the bill will put a financial burden on the state and won't curb animal cruelty.
H.B. 1451 is a good bill that was well researched by its sponsor Rep. Senfronia Thompson.  It  is a proactive bill that  will protect innocent dogs and cats living in commercial breeding facilities by providing them with basic humane care.
Please help tell Texas legislators the importance of puppy mill reform and stop the suffering of dogs trapped in puppy mills.

We the undersigned are writing to ask the Texas Senate to approve H.B. 1451, the Puppy Mill Bill and protect the lives of animals living in commercial breeding facilities.
H.B. 1451 is a well-researched proposal that will provide dogs and cats with basic humane treatment such as cages that allow them to stand and move around comfortably or being examined by a veterinarian once a year.
It will cut down on animal abuse because it will require applicants to go through a criminal background check.  That should deter individuals like the convicted animal abuser in Kaufman County from opening puppy mills.
Dogs and cats in breeding kennels have no say in the way they are treated.  It is up to people like those in the Texas Legislature to see that they are protected.
H.B. 1451 is a proactive bill that will protect innocent animals.
Puppy mill reform should be about the animals and not about politics or special interests.
Thank you for taking time to read this letter and consider the issues surrounding it.
Please help Texas choose puppy mill reform.
