This past Monday my family's dog Jazzie - a most friendly and loving pet I've ever had, - was brutally murdered in her own home by two pit bulls.
While everyone was at work, those two beasts came into our fenced backyard and seeing Jazz they tried to attack her, unprovoked - our dog never barks at anyone, and is so tender and loving, she probably didn't even know how to bite! In addition she had cancer and was treated for cancer for several years now. There was no chance that she could stand up to those two beasts, bread to kill. So they picked a weak victim, chased her to the house, where she ran to her dog room, which is also a gym room, at the first floor of our house. She ran for the safely of her home. Little did she know that the vicious animals would follow her right through the dog door and there corner her, - horrified, crying, and literary tore her to pieces. When the members of the family came home, there already was police, and SPCA people who collected the dogs, - almost an hour later they were still in the house, guarding their kill. There is blood everywhere - on the exercise equipment, doors, walls, - and here she was, our little sweet dog, or rather what was left of her - lying in a pool of blood in her own home. Now , 2 days later, the SPCA had to release the pit bulls back to the owners, because, as it happens, there is no law regarding a pet (who are members of our families, for most of us) killed by a dog (or two dogs), even if those dogs come in to your house to do it!
I believe that they should be put down and our laws should be changed to protect us from such terror. On more than one occasion they've threatened neighbors living on our street, and would only go away after a shotgun is used, and at one time were taken by SPCA for running loose. Let's not let these beasts and others alike to kill our little kids, our beloved dogs, horses and other pets. Something needs to be done! Please call or write your Dare County Commissioners, County Attorney, the SPCA, your local councilmen and police departments, even your state legislators to let them know how you feel. People of North Carolina, please support this petition, and don't let those murderers lavish while the whole neighborhood is terrified and the sweet and loving dog killed so brutally!
