Stop the Ontario County Landfill Expansion

The Ontario County Mega Landfill is located between the heads of Canandaigua and Seneca Lakes on historic routes 5 & 20. After construction 11 major impacts occurred these include; truck traffic ( 1 truck every 2 minutes), odors ( traveling to Geneva and the surrounding area ), litter ( blows out of the dump and trucks), dust ( black soot is produced by the gas production plant) nuisance organisms ( Ontario County has a huge sea gull population, birds migrates from the dump to the lakes in the evening with a large food source they now inhabit much more than the dump), land fill gas ( 20 tons of Hazardous air pollution to increase to 33 tons with the expansion) view shed impairment ( huge unsightly mounds replace flat farm land) decreased property values ( people do not want to live or work near the third largest dump in NYS), additional concerns are linked to air, soil, groundwater pollution and structural maintenance these will remain concerns long after Ontario County ceases to be legally and fiscally responsible for the business . The dump is located in the Town of Seneca, comprised of approximately 1200 citizens. The town has a very small budget that will create future difficulties when identifying and remediating problems should they arise. Industries such as these frequently become Brown site cleanup areas and are problematic as pollution limits are subjective and influenced by politics more often than by health science. In addition very few of the Mega Dumps sites support economically viable business when shuttered.
