Tell the British Government to Stop Stalling on Bees

Bee populations have collapsed in the UK and beyond, with one of the key causes apparently being to the use of neonictinoid pesticides. To protect bee populations, the European Union is trying to ban the use of three of these pesticides on certain crops.

Showing just how green this government is not, the UK, far from taking the lead in saving bees, is trying to block this legislation.

Wild and domestic bees are essential to agriculture and natural ecosystems, and not just for honey. Their pollinating services are vital; in fact, a third of the UK’s food supply depends on bee.

The results of letting their populations continue to collapse would be economically and environmentally catastrophic. We cannot let this happen because the British government wants to make a few short-term savings.

Tell the UK government to stop stalling on bee protection.

We the undersigned ask that you stop taking a negligent if not …approach to protecting bees from the impact of neonictinoid pesticides, which it is becoming clear have played a key role in their decline.

In particular, we are extremely concerned that the UK, together with Spain and Germany, is apparently trying to block EU action on three of the pesticides concerned, apparently in the interests of short-term profits.

Bees play such a vital role in both agriculture and natural ecosystems that we cannot afford to take such a lax approach. Please stop trying to prove that this government is the least green ever when the results have such a high economic, environmental and social cost.

Thank you for your attention.
