Petition to Drill in Alaska

Target:
The Fedral Government
Sponsored by:
Simple as the title states.  Based on technological trends we will be using mostly non-oil automobiles very soon, say 50-100 years.  The U.S. has oil reserves to last more than 3 times that.  Why then will we not use this resource when the American people suffer?

This Petition will go strait to the top, it is a giant task we face, countering all the Pro Wildlife Extremist.  At the time of the creation of this petition there are 30000 signatures on a "Stop drilling in Alaska" petition.  Our initial goal is 1000 signatures, at 100,000 we will send this to be seen.  It is time we yelled common sense to counter the drivel we normally hear.

Environmentalists with their stop everything mentality have driven the cost of oil and gasoline up more than any other cause. They have prevented new refineries and drilling for too many years. Ths HAS to STOP!

Gasoline and food prices are escalating at an alarming pace. People are suffering unnecessarily. Congress must take immediate action to allow drilling for the oil that is readily available off our shores, in the Gulf of Mexico and in Alaska. Only 50 miles from our Florida coastline, Cuba and China are drilling for oil, but we cannot because of current law. We keep hearing about using biofuels, developing alternate fuels, increasing the use of solar panels and building more wind farms. The truth is, even environmental leaders are concerned about the diversion of food into fuel, causing higher prices and increased starvation globally. Other alternate fuels are strictly theoretical and may not be developed in our lifetime, if at all. Solar panels and wind farms are primarily supplemental sources of energy. Oil is still the main fuel of our economy. Our economy will not grow on conservation alone. We can be oil and energy independent, but Congress must pass legislation immediately to allow the drilling of domestically available oil.

As the world's most proficient consumer of oil it is time that we go into our backyard and secure the future of our economy. The LAST thing in the world OPEC wants us to do is drill, therefore we must do exactly that.

It's time we unleashed the billions of barrels we have and let OPEC dictate to the rest of the world when and how much oil they will have. I believe we are at the point economically that this is by far our best alternative. The advances in drilling technology have made this a process that does not harm the environment as it once did. It's time we relied on ourselves and quit relying on foreign oil.

we have the technology to drill clean, the oil companys must only be made to do so.however oil is a natural thing, occurring all over the globe.as such i am at a loss to understand why most people think it is so bad. oil leaks from the ocean floor every day but you do not see oil slicks wonder why that is.

Drilling in the Anwr Refuge will only use less than eight percent of the land
# 94:

The only people who ever see ANWR are photographers for National Geographic. Drill!!!
# 93:

We need to start thinking of ourselves economically instead of thinking out of our box, or quote out of our minds! We needed to start drilling 13 yrs ago, if we would have we would not be in this predicament now!!!!

The oil already has been drilled and sitting in the pipeline - lets put it to use and create jobs for the American people instead of relying on foreign oil and giving foreigners our jobs.

Please consider releasing the oil that is being held. With the way that things are going, I and most other middle class citizens are not going to be able to afford the gas/fuel needed to go to work, the power and water bill, the rent/mortgage to keep a roof over their heads, and the food needed to survive. It is bad enough when the average American citizen suffers, but have you consider what you are doing to our children. If you don't believe they are suffering and going hungry due to your actions or lack there of, then you are wrong. So I ask you again to please help us.

we have technology to drill and not compromise the environment and still be able to use our own resources with out buying as much from other nations.
# 75:

We have technology to drill in a way that does not compromise the environment in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. If no oil bases in the Gulf of Mexico leaked oil during Hurricane Katrina, I would say we are building oil drilling bases that are friendly to the environment. We need to stop relying on Middle East oil when we have our own right here.

We need to drill for our own oil and it CAN be done without adversely affecting the wildlife or the landscape.
# 67:

Yes we do need to get off oil completely. At the same time we also need to decrease our dependence on foreign oil tremendously! Drill in Alaska! When I payed $4.20 per gallon for regular that is it for me. I ask at what price is your breaking point? Gas prices are only going to rise. Possibly to $5.00 at the end of the summer. As a consumer I do not have many environmental options. I do get 31 miles to the gallon. I wish i cold get more or not use gas at all. In reality, I can not and neither can millions of other Americans. SOLUTION: We only need to use a small portion of Alaska to drill. Roughly 2000 Acres is all we need out of the 1.5 Billion in Alaska to tap the reserves (which by the way are the largest in North America). We also have the technology to do this in an environmental way. In fact, we have the technology for a detoxification process which converts drilling waste into a substance which is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. I don't want to make this any longer. So I invite those who disagree to do some research and use that knowledge to make the right decision.
