Demand Elizabeth May be in the leaders debate!

In 2008, the Canadian media consortium invited Elizabeth May to represent the Green party of Canada at the leaders debate because the party had one sitting member of parliament, and that year the Green party received nearly 1 million votes. In 2011, the media consortium decided against inviting Elizabeth May because the Green party had no sitting members.

The Green party currently has two members of parliament. Elizabeth May, representing Saanich Gulf Islands, and Bruce Hyer, representing Thunder bay superior north. In spite of this fact, the Canadian media consortium is considering shutting out the Green party of Canada from the National televised leaders debate. This would be a significant blow to our democracy and a clear restriction of free speech.

At present, the Green party of Canada is polling at approximately 7% which means that nearly 2 million Canadians are considering to vote Green. Don't let the voices of 2 million Canadians be silenced. Please sign the petition asking the Canadian media consortium to invite Elizabeth May to the televised leaders debate!

Media Consortium

To whom it may concern at the CBC, CTV, Global, Sun News Network and TV Ontario,

We the undersigned wish to express our concern over the consortiums' potential decision to exclude Elizabeth May from the televised leaders debate and demand that you allow the leader of the Green Party of Canada to participate.

In contrast to Quebec only parties, the Green party of Canada is a truly National party which ran candidates in 308 ridings last election. At present, the Green party of Canada is polling at approximately 7% which means that nearly 2 million Canadians are considering to vote Green.

Don't let the voices of 2 million Canadians be silenced. Be brave and allow those people to have a voice at the televised leaders debate. Allow Elizabeth May to participate!
