END TSR CENSORSHIP | SINGLE WARNING BANS | MODERATOR ELITISM

DISCLAIMER: I completely understand the need for ‘qualified free speech’ the idea that it is not hateful, cannot be counted as bullying and cannot incite violence. Moreover, this petition is challenging the site’s exploitative censorship.

First and foremost, TSR is a great site for students to discuss and for years now has provided a support system for individuals throughout their academic careers and beyond, this petition does not seek to negate the site’s long standing excellence in the field of student services rather the intention is to recognise an aspect which should be altered in order to improve user experience.

Speaking fairly, TSR does facilitate general debate and discussion however this ceases once the discussion transgresses against the site’s subtly existing liberal agenda.

Many a time, users have been banned for expressing critical viewpoints. Recently, I was sentected to a week’s ban for expressing my beliefs regarding a social issue, I was further cautioned for quoting a Bible and asking for thoughts on it in a Christian forum. Now, the bloodline of this proposition is not on the basis of my experiences rather a whole bank of similar accounts, when I spoke of this issue on the site my thread was quickly closed down however highly repped by members, with messages of approval.

Another censorship activity which should be restricted is the sanctioning of single warning bans, where the user is unable to rectify their actions as they are banned following a single prompt which often isn’t accesible given the ban. Of course a situation may arrise where a user decides to post something extremely anti-social without any sign of possible reformation, such as a terroristic endorsement, however there have been many occasions where these bans are used as a response to new users who minorly fall below the code of conduct’s standards, this in turn creates havoc as in the boutade of fury, users often flood the site with capitalised threads seeking justice. The site policy should be adapted to restrict the implementation of single warning bans.

Additionally, the site needs to review moderation activities urgently. Certain Moderators, have been expoited their privileges through unjustified thread and post deletions. On one occasion, my thread was deleted as I didn’t accept the Mod’s advice on another instance my response to a user which provided an alternate insight than the Mod’s one was deleted and I was sent a postong tip. On both occasions, TSR fairly addressed the issues unjustly my deleted activity was shortly revived and the individuals were cautioned. However, I believe TSR as the leading online student forum, should not allow such malpractice to continue without reform. Many members have expressed they are scared to debate/challenge certain MODs as they are ‘fearful of warnings’. It’s the site’s responsibility that these unjustifed fears are reduced.

    Responses to opposition:

TSR is a private site, it operates upon its own code of conduct in line with UK law, you are in no place to challenge it?

I understand that TSR is allowed to operate as it does as a private entity, I simply disagree with aspects of the operation hence as a well wishing user have created a petition for reformation which is obviously not legally binding, however presents the recommendations in a clear way.

These types of threads are meaningless, TSR has a fixed code it follows, it’s not amendable?

TSR is a respectable company, it’s my belief that TSR will appreciate evidenced opposition as a way of ameliorating the site and will uphold corporate accountability.

If you think something’s wrong with TSR, use the feedback forum not some illegitimate approach such as this?

If it were that simple, I would have not made this petition. Many have and many will, raise this issue in the feedback forum however so far their has been no fruit, petitions tend to be more effective in showing corporations how members feel given anonymity , signature count and wider reach.
