An orphaned squirrel is now living in a young girl’s ponytail.
The animal, which was found at the Bally Vaughan Wildlife Sanctuary in Zimbabwe,
decided to make its home in Abby Putterill’s hair after climbing in two months ago.
The 16-year-old, whose parents own the sanctuary near Harare, is used to being around animals
so didn’t seem too bothered when Hammy, the mopane squirrel, moved in.
Her mother Debbie Putterill said: ‘One day he was playing with Abby and he managed
to crawl into her hair. He seemed to make himself at home and still does it now.
Abby doesn’t mind having the squirrel in her hair.
‘We’ve never had a squirrel do this before and it’s really quite funny to see
but he’s happy enough to lie there and watch the world go by.’
Abby now constantly has her hair in a ponytail so when the little critter does decide to have a rest,
she’s always ready.
