My daughter Beauty is 26. Her mind is of a first grader. Yet, in Maryland and at least 20 other states, she is her own guardian. The law prohibits parents without full guardianship to be fully included in the well being of adult children with Autism! Many parents and caregivers aren't fully aware (rights being so limited) of their child's health, proper housing, education, sexual experiences, drug/alcohol consumption, financial provisions, hospitalizations or medications, any abuse, neglect, police presence and more! These are underlying fears for those with Autism/Aspergers too! I, along with others, want to see their Human Rights be Honored, Valued and Carried Out with Dignity like everyone else. Who will listen and stand up to protect them?
