During an interview with Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse, late night host Bill Maher used the n-word to make an ignorant, tasteless "joke" on his HBO show
Real Time. Following the incident, HBO released a routine statement, calling Maher’s use of the word "completely inexcusable."
Yet HBO seems to have completely excused Maher’s behavior by taking no actions against the host.Please join in demanding that HBO #FireBillMaher immediately!During the segment, Senator Sasse invited Maher to "come work in the fields with us" in his home state of Nebraska. Maher replied, "Work in the fields? Senator, I’m a house n*****."
Maher quickly
apologized for his comment, and blamed his poor judgement on being tired.
But Maher has a long history of poor judgement, having made countless racist, sexist, transphobic, and Islamophobic comments over the years. Enough is enough. If HBO doesn’t want to normalize offensive and bigoted behavior, it must take serious action against Bill Maher.
