Help Save Tibetan Buddhist Place of Refuge

A ceaseless prayer vigil for the planet and all beings has occurred at Kunzang Palyul Choling (KPC), a Buddhist temple in the rural Maryland countryside, not far from Washington, DC, since 1985. KPC offers a beautiful, spacious and tranquil prayer room that is open around the clock, for individuals of all faiths who need a place for quiet reflection and spiritual rejuvenation.

At this time, however, the Temple is not able to be a place of public assembly. Much renovation needs to occur to bring our old building up to current code. These codes have changed greatly since we moved here. This puts us in the awkward and very painful position of having to turn away groups of visitors wishing to pray and meditate inside. However, the prayer vigil is being maintained by the ordained residents of the Temple and their friends, and the meditation room remains open to individual meditators.

We are actively fundraising to reach the financial goal that will see the renovation project to completion—an even more beautiful, accessible, and fully compliant Temple building for all to enjoy. We are asking for your support to help us get the Temple fully reopened to the public as quickly as possible. Please sign our petition and show your support for this unique place of spiritual refuge. Thank you. Our prayers for world peace, kindness and compassion will always remain steadfast.

For almost 30 years now, Kunzang Palyul Choling has served as a place of spiritual refuge and pilgrimage for the local community and those far beyond, for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We, the undersigned, value the temple greatly and feel that it serves a unique and needed purpose in the world by promoting peace and offering practical tools, such as meditation classes and Buddhist instruction, to help people attain their highest potential as human beings. We respectfully petition that Montgomery County grant KPC an exception to be able to remain open to visitors of all faiths and persuasions, day or night, as a spiritual refuge, during the renovation process that will bring the temple into compliance for public operations.
