Urge the EPA To Take Action In Protecting Oceans & Shellfish Affected by Ocean Acidification!

Please sign and share this petition worldwide as we urge the Environmental Protection Agency of the government (EPA) to take action that will protect the oceans and the life that lives within. Shellfish like mussels and other sea life are being affected by ocean acidification and are being threatened from a normal life within the ocean waters.

Scientists and environmentalists have been conducting studies on the climate changes and ocean acidification. It appears that shellfish like mussels and other sea life are being threatened by these changes, with mussels in particular causing their shells to be brittle. The studies documented by the scientists reports state that "carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causes the oceans to become more acidic and reduces the concentration of the minerals mussels need to generate their shells." Furthermore, “What we’ve found in the lab is that increased levels of acidification in their habitats have a negative impact on mussels’ ability to create their shells. . ."

The shellfish industry is huge, worth a lot of income annually to the UK and Scottish economy, predominantly from mussels and oysters. This and other sea life is crucial for the environment worldwide and your help is needed through the signing and sharing of this petition as a resource in urging the EPA to work with the scientists and environmentalists when it comes to the acidification of the ocean waters they live in.

The Environmental Protection Agency of the Federal Government - We urge you to take some well-needed crucial steps in protecting the oceans and sea life that lives within, such as mussels and other shellfish from acidification of the water. These creatures are in danger due to climate changes and the ocean acidification, that results with shellfish like mussels to have brittle shells. Studies by scientists have documented that "carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causes the oceans to become more acidic and reduces the concentration of the minerals mussels need to generate their shells. Work closely with the studies and recommendations of the scientists in an effort to save the many sea life creatures that are sustained within the ocean waters.
