Tell Congress: Re-write the Fake Climate Bill!
Dear Friends,
Would you flip a coin to determine whether hundreds of millions of people are forced into deadly climate migrations and conflict over desperate food and water shortages? Or how about whether countless species of our planet live or die?
Congress is poised to do 20 times worse than that, this Friday, June 26th, as it prepares to vote on the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACESA, H.R. 2454, also known as Waxman-Markey). Shame on the few corporate-friendly environmental groups who are helping to greenwash it and selling it to the American people, even having the audacity to use this website to ask you, members of CARE2, who truly care about the environment, to help them pass this climate-action-delaying bill into law!
This legislation aims for a greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction target that is at best 20 times weaker than a 50/50 shot for avoiding catastrophic global warming! Even that abysmal target is fictional, because polluters are allowed to use "offsets" to actually INCREASE, not decrease, their pollution for decades to come. And to top it off, this bill shamefully repeals existing EPA power to regulate global warming pollution!
The vote will likely come to the House floor this Friday, June 26th. Please tell your Congressional representative that ACESA/Waxman-Markey is a fake climate bill and must be withdrawn or voted down. Ask your representative to come up with a real climate solution that:
1. Cuts greenhouse gas pollution quickly to return to a safe level in the atmosphere - below 350 parts-per-million (More here).
2. Includes, as part of the emissions-reduction measures, a switch to 100% renewable electricity in 10 years.
3. Preserves existing authority of the EPA to regulate greenhouse gas pollution.
4. Does not allow unreliable, fraud-prone "offsets" in place of real emission reductions.
5. Phases out coal, and prohibits the use/extraction of tar sand and oil shale -- all the worst culprits of global warming.
This will produce millions of jobs as we create sustainable, healthy, vibrant, local and resilient low-carbon economies and preserve a livable planet for our children!

We the undersigned urge you to VOTE NO on the FAKE climate bill H.R. 2454 (Waxman-Markey, ACES Act), and REPLACE IT will one that takes much much stronger, immediate action towards real climate protection, before time runs out.
It is essential to focus on what's necessary to avert climate catastrophe as opposed to what's politically palatable to the profit-hungry fossil fuel lobby.
Waxman-Markey aims for a greenhouse gas emission reduction target that is at best 20 times weaker than a 450 parts-per-million stabilization target, the latter having a 50/50 shot for avoiding catastrophic global warming! Our children's future deserves better odds! Please come up with a real climate solution that:
- Cuts greenhouse gas pollution quickly to return to a safe level - below 350 parts-per-million. This will produce millions of jobs as we create sustainable, healthy, vibrant, local and resilient low-carbon economies. (More below.)
- Includes, as part of the emissions-reduction measures, a switch to 100% renewable electricity in 10 years.
- Preserves the ability of the Clean Air Act to set scientifically-based pollution standards.
- Does not allow unreliable, fraud-prone offsets in place of real emission reductions
- Phases out coal, and prohibits the use/extraction of tar sand and oil shale -- all the worst culprits of global warming.
Anything less is simply unacceptable.

How are senior citizens supposed to pay higher utility bills?? It is sickening that France gets 80%,Lithuania 75%,Slovakia 56%,etc.of safest,cheapest,and most efficient form of energy known;nuclear power!!Western Europe is on board,China,India,and Japan have 69 nuclear reactors planned!!!THE UNITED STATES IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST,with a measley 16% of energy derived from nuclear sources. And all we get is wind fans,and skyrocketing energy bills!!!

I think that IF our country were in better shape financially that this might be something to try. Since it is BROKE and our President has already spent more than we could pay in three life times...NO... I believe that this will cause more industry to leave the US and cause more job losses. It will put small business out of business and people without jobs can not afford any increases in taxes OR energy costs... what so ever! Industry already in trouble finacially will just close their doors or move out of the country. It's very simple. water is wet...grass is green...the sky is blue...and you can't get blood from a stone....the spending needs to stop now.
This bill is a disaster for the country.

HR 2454...In no uncertain terms should you vote for this bill. The so-called “cap and trade” bill will shut down the economy and introduce serfdom. “Limiting the amount of CO2 will do nothing to help make the planet less warm, make us energy independent or create millions of jobs. It will on the other hand destroy whatever is left of our industry here in the North American Union by leaving companies no choice but to move offshore. Some of the biggest oil reserves in the world are here in North America, yet we rely on foreign oil.
This bill does nothing to protect our environment. It's just going to shift power to the federal government just like everything else and cost the public a lot of money that none of us can afford.
Please vote NO on the Cap and Trade Bill. It is a fake bill and we, as hard working Americans, will endure the pain of millions of Americans being out of work. Please help us, as Americans.
NO! NO! NO! on H.R. 2454 Cap & Trade BULLCRAP... No one will be able to afford their bills! Were in hard enough times as it is PLEASE dont make it harder. Imagine $7 a gallon gasoline. Imagine your kids freezing while they're sick in the winter because you can't afford to turn the heat up past 58. Imagine the price of everything going up drastically, while inflation, possibly hyper inflation, hits in addition to the Cap and Trade price hikes. Imagine having to keep your family in one room of the house and limiting any electronics usage due to massive energy bills. Imagine your senators not having to do any of this because even the poorest of them make around $250,000 pear year. Imagine the President sitting in the White House with his heat around 80 degrees, where he likes it. Imagine the international bankers and corporations being fine and dandy as they receive 85% of the Cap and Trade money, just after many got bailed out by you and every other working American. And ask yourself: Can you accept this?
Vote "no" on Cap and Trade. This bill undermines everything we as Americans stand for. I do not stand alone in saying, that we the people are disgusted with all the party politics from both sides. Please, do what is right and in our best interest, not your political party's interest. VOTE NO!
I am proposing that we take less of the taxpayers dollar and allow us and the corporations to use common sense under the current mandates in place already.
Senators, I am a United States Marine, I am charged to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. I honorably support and defend the rights of the American people even though as a Marine I am not given those same rights. I feel it is my duty on top of being a United States Marine to write to you and implore that you vote "no" on Cap and Trade. This bill, from what I have been able to read is the most intrusive piece of legislation in American history. This bill undermines everything we as Americans stand for. I can't believe that a representative of the people would ever vote in favor of this bill unless that representative was heavily invested in a company that stood to make a significant profit off of the bill. It is a slap in the face of every American that any legislator would vote yes on this bill without reading it, any bill for that matter. We elect you to represent us and vote based on our wishes. This shouldn't be difficult considering the fact that ninety percent of the bills you pass do not even apply to you because of your political status. Start thinking like a middle income tax payer, not like someone who can vote for your own salary increase when expenses get too high. We are struggling to make ends meet daily. We pay YOUR slaries and a tax increase and more government regulation and personal invasion is what we get as your "thank you?" Greetings, I have read the summary for this bill and it appears to be in favor of multi-national corporations so they are able to whitewash there emissions, increase their profits, and drive smaller businesses into bankruptcy. This bill will also increase the tax burden on the general public that is already paying for the bank bailouts. I am against this bill.
This bill is a direct attack on the people of this nation. WE the people don't want nor need to pay YOU in government any more money so you and your lobbies can get even fatter, especially for such a blatent lie as climate change

We humans have little effect on the climate. Right now we are closer to the sun do to our planetary cycle along with the sun cycle. This bill will hurt the people more then anything else. We need to think of a better future for our children and with this bill being passed the hope of that will be no more! By chance this bill does pass we the people have the right to petition or and even have the right to demand for the president and his team to be removed from office!
