We, the undersigned call on the City of Sydney Council to act immediately in its commitment to support local creative artists Stefan von Reiche and Rachel Jordan of Archway 1 and withdraw their intended plans to clear all the spaces under all the viaducts, instead allowing two (2) to remain, (closest to The Crescent Timber Hardware); Archway 1 and Archway 2 of Lot 6/7A. As the spaces are currently being utilized to provide local services to the community as well providing cultural and creative benefit.
Benefits to the community are:
• Allowing local artists access to this space is a positive step in facilitating culture in the
area and supporting local creativeʼs need for space to work and exhibit.
• A community art gallery with regular art exhibitions has provided a great cultural aesthetic for the park. Adding to the atmosphere and allowing the community to view the work of local artists. Local artists and educators, are given priority opportunity to exhibit visual work, and/or participate in the local theatre and arts studio.
• They have transformed this industrial space into a visually appealing usable space that
has enhanced these already unique and rare heritage archways.
• We support their proposal and urge City of Sydney to see the merits and the many benefits to the community, of this creative duo and their ability to transform and develop a creative space for the community, in what would otherwise be an empty space.
