Save Senior Quotes at Brighton High

    Senior Student Quote Petition

We, the community of Brighton High located in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, demand the Senior Class of 2018 and all future seniors to be able to submit and have published in the annual yearbook their “Senior Quote.” We accept the responsibility of making the quote meet the standards of the school handbook and policies. We accept the deadline of when these quotes are due. In return, we expect these quotes to be published under our individual class photos.

The reasons for our petition are as follows:
It has been a many-year right of passage for Seniors at Brighton High School to have a quote printed.
It is our freedom of speech and it is also our freedom to choose whether or not we want to a submit a quote. The submission of a quote should not be required. If a quote is not submitted, the class motto of “Rise up” should not be used.
We pay for our yearbooks, so we should be able to include what we feel is important.
This is the only voice that many students are able to contribute to the yearbook.
Much thought and time was put into finding a 6-word quote that told a little bit about each one of us.
The majority should not be punished for the stupidity of a few who felt it was necessary to submit derogatory and vulgar quotes. Those who submitted derogatory and vulgar quotes should be consulted and given the opportunity to make adjustments or choose to have it left out completely.

We, the undersigned, hope you will listen to our pleas and take our voices into consideration when reviewing this petition.
