INVESTIGATE THE INJUSTICE

Target:
1000
Sponsored by:

Troy Anthony Davis, who is on Georgia's death row, could soon face a fourth execution date. Yet no jury has ever heard the compelling new evidence that can prove his innocence. We call upon you, our elected officials, to investigate this case.

Troy Davis has been on death row in Georgia for the past 17 years, convicted of killing a white police officer, Mark Allen MacPhail in 1989.  But no physical evidence linked him to the crime and no murder weapon was ever found.  Troy was convicted on the basis of nine witnesses who testified against him at his trial.  But now seven of these nine have come forward in sworn affidavits to recant their statements.  Many say they felt pressured and coerced by the police to name Troy.

Shamefully our court system has never allowed Troy to present this new evidence to a jury. Troy Davis has faced down three past execution dates, once coming within two hours of his execution.  Any day now the state of Georgia could be issuing another execution date. We cannot stand by and see justice trampled.

A man's life hangs in the balance. Civil rights hang in the balance. Justice hangs in the balance.
President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, District Attorney of Chatham County Larry Chisolm: You have the power to right this injustice. We, the signers below, urge you to do so.

would you rather have justice or mercy? jesus is mercy and forgiveness. if you prefer justice be prepared to pay on judgement day for every bit of pain and suffering you have caused to any life form during your entire life. two wrongs do not make a right. have you thought of the family of someone on death row? are you willing to put them through that? what if it was you? society will never overcome if we keep up this atrocity. destroying a family for destroying another family. theres a better way! god bless you.

I believe the death penalty should become obsolete in American. Reason for my belief is that there should be a humanitarian way about punishing those accuse of capital crimes in the USA.

I Believe this man to be innocent. If the State Of Geogia put this man to death and later it is found out that he committed no crimes, the police, prosecuters and anyone else involved in the lies that put this man on death row Should meet the same fate.

I am opposed to the death penalty for the following reasons: The death penalty is the most violent form of punishment, thus promoting violence as a solution to social problems. It is impossible to establish safeguards that will insure for all time that an innocent person will never be executed. People are now sentenced to death in cases where society must bear some of the responsibility for the action of the individual. Examples are where the person as a child was repeatedly brutalized and/or sexually molested, where there is severe mental retardation or aberration, or where the person is a minor. Even the execution process itself causes social trauma and divisiveness that far outweigh any possible benefit.

It is time for our society, if we truly are a civilized nation, to end the policies of racial inhumanity, intolerance and injustice. Ending the death penalty would be a good start.

Life is precious and sacred and no human has the right to take life or make a law that takes away life. All laws were originally thoughts or ideas of fairness by wise people in communities that considered justice using the head and the heart. With empathy we can make better laws that punish bad behaviour without putting our name to murder - that is what sentencing someone to death is and does this not lower the law makers to the same place as the murderer works from - lacking in morals and ethics.

My name is Tisha. Troy Davis is innocent because they really didn'y have any physical evidence. They only had the testimony of a juvenile, marine officer, an illiterate man,the suspect himself and a parole women who all stated that they were coerced and pressure by the police. The other suspect and Troy Davis had many characteristics. I called this type of evidence hearsay because most of these people was not even at the scene of the crime. If the murder weapon was not founded then what evidence do they really have? Troy Davis is innocent and I think they should free him into society. On the night of the event, Sylvester Coles was telling people that he shot him and a man named Troy is paying for it (Research). When the court hears his case, the recantation probably don't get heard in court because of the 1996 law which states that he should have got the recantations during the state trial process not in the federal. If they don't be hear in court then Troy could be executed in October, November, or even December. Troy have been on death row for more than 18 years and where is the justice? Why do I person who kills a peace officer gets the death penalty, but if they kill another human being it is only life? Don't get me wrong, Brian Nicholas got 485 years plus life without the possibility of parole.

I am not a lawyer but, if 7 of 9 witnesses confess to being coerced by police officers to testify against an alleged criminal...Something is obviously wrong. What do you gain by keeping this man in prison? He isn't campaining to MAKE a mockery of Georgia's Judicial System, his 17 years imprisonment does that already. He is asking for a NEW trial, a FAIR trial. He wants to get on with his life.

With so many verdicts overturned, either based on new evidence or on technology catching up with old evidence, the death penalty should be abolished. Each of those verdicts were once rendered "beyond a reasonable doubt." "Beyond a reasonable doubt" is an insufficient standard for ending a life.

This is a typical case of a miscarriage of justice due to the lack of substantial evidence, the arbitrary manner in which the death penalty was decided and lack of defendants lawyers skills. I hope this case will open the door for all death penalty cases to be re-examined.

I can't imagine what it would be like to be sitting on death row, staring the end of my life in the face, knowing I was innocent. Just one death of an innocent person is enough reason to stop the death penalty. And everyone knows that this wouldn't be the first innocent to be executed. How does it help anybody to kill people. An eye for an eye doesn't really making anything better or help heal wounds. Please stop this execution! Please at least look at the evidence that this poor man is innocent! We are the only superpower left in the world and we still do such barbaric things to our own people. It's a disgrace to the United States as a whole!

It blows my mind that we continue to exist in a time where you are proven guilty until you can be proved innocent. Then folks wonder why Americans lose their patriotism. I pray for his life to be spared and that the many more Troy Davis's can have hope that there justice will too someday come. Peace.

The death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment not only for the inmate, but for his loved ones as well. Troy, and many others, deserve a second look at evidence that has surfaced. You can't just lock people away and throw away the key. End the death penalty for all!
