The UK Government has already announced it will introduce a licensing scheme for anyone breeding or selling more than three litters of puppies a year, and banning the sale of puppies younger than eight weeks old in an attempt to stop animal cruelty and neglect.

The RSPCA said it was a welcome step but if the standards are high enough, and properly enforced, this and should those wanting to buy a puppy to distinguish between a reputable and a rogue breeder or seller.

However in a recent report on somersetlive.co.uk puppies are being kept in dark, tiny pens with broken bones and fur covered in faeces at legal puppy farms. This cruelty in the name of profit must stop!
