Most areas have strict laws against animal abuse, cruelty and neglect although not all laws are enforced as strictly as necessary to ward off harm to those who cannot save themselves. Some states like Wyoming, however, have some of the worst animal protection laws, along with South Dakota, New Mexico, Kentucky and Iowa. Some believe that Wyoming is rated unfairly when it comes to laws protecting animals although they are close to the bottom. A spokesman for the Cheyenne Animal Shelter believes they are providing basic protection, but is that enough??
In accordance with some of the areas that cares for the health and well-being of the animals, the hope of the Animal League Defense Fund, who did the study on the animal protection laws, to inspire states and areas with the weakest laws. However, these states need more than inspiration when it comes to protection of sweet, precious animals.
What the league is proposing is more stringent penalties, protective orders, cost mitigation and recovery, seizure and impoundment, mandatory veterinary reporting of suspected animal cruelty, offender registration, along with other highly-enforced law enforcement policies. Currently Wyoming does not consider animal abuse, neglect and cruelty as a misdemeanor but a minor felony. Unless they step up the laws and provide stricter punishments, animal abuse and cruelty will never stop!

Animal League Defense Fund and Wyoming State Governing Officials - Please implement stronger laws and enforce stricter punishments for anyone who abuses an animal in any way. Such crimes are more than just minor and abusers need to face stiff punishments beyond that of a felony; long prison time as much as the laws will allow, stopping animal cruelty. Without these changes, harm to animals will never stop. Abusers also need to be a registered offender and never own or touch another animal. The health and well-being of animals lies in your hands with stronger animal protection laws and harsh punishments.
