Demand Personal Finance be a required course in High Schools

Personal finance is a critical skill that every individual needs to know, yet it is left out of our curriculums, forcing students to rely on parents to share knowledge. The problem comes when parents themselves are financially illiterate, thus spreading financial illiteracy, and harming individuals and our economy.

While adding another required course requires additional funds from schools, the positive impact it will have on the economy makes it a profitable venture. Students now enter the world after high school, having to make their own financial decisions, without substaintial knowledge with which to make the best decisions. They don't understand the importance of saving, or how mortgages work (a huge contributing factor in the Great Recession), or how to avoid debt. These are basic life skills that we aren't teaching our students, and that needs to change.
