We demand the equal opportunity to work overtime.

DoD government workers are not afforded the same and equal opportunity to work overtime as the contracted workers here at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Civil service employees should have the same opportunity to work overtime if the work load is high as the contractors do, as it stands now the contractors are allowed to work as much overtime as they want whenever they want. It is much harder for civil service employees to get overtime. Our overtime request must be routed through the chain of command all they way to our headquarters in New Cumberland, PA. We have been told by our chain of command that there is plenty of money set aside for overtime and yet we seldom see any even though we might have a high work load. The shipyard even pays DLA for overtime, where this money goes we are not sure but it is not to pay for overtime. How could DoD give the contractors such a large budget for overtime that they can work as much and as often as they want and why are we not afforded the same opportunity to support our families?
