THIS IS MORE THAN A PETITION. By signing here you are PLEDGING to boycott all media coverage of the Olympics. This silent but powerful protest will speak to the fame-seeking and power-hungry even more than the petition which is already circulating on Care2, and is doing fantastically well! Keep the signatures coming on that one, as well. But now I beseech you all to put your money where your mouth is and TURN OFF the Games entirely!
Here's why:
Sochi City officials and President Putin lied and now Sochi’s homeless dogs and cats are paying the price with their lives! Private contractors have been hired to exterminate the city’s stray dogs and cats – which they refer to as “biological trash” -- just days before the start of the biggest Olympic Games in history. And this, “after Sochi city hall last year publicly dropped plans to dispose of more than 2,000 dogs and cats after outrage from animal rights groups.”
Animal lovers the world over, I implore you to stand up and fight back. Quietly, passively and EMPHATICALLY! Protest this abhorrent and inhumane animal control activity by boycotting ALL Olympic and Paralympic 2014 TV coverage, including the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and any news broadcasts of any and all related events.
Make your voice heard by saying nothing. By doing nothing. Instead, DON’T click that ON button on your remote. DON'T follow sports coverage on your mobile phone! Instead protest loudly by purposefully removing your eyes from the millions of dollars in advertising and promotions designed to make you buy more stuff and keep the consumerist world turning.
And, by doing so, you’ll be shouting “Shame on YOU!” to President Putin, Sochi’s city officials and all the fat-cat corporate sponsors and media giants who are so busy lining their pockets and helping Putin realize some narcissistic, power-hungry wet dream he wants to fulfill, that the smallest and most innocent of earth’s creatures are blatantly slaughtered and flushed away like yesterday’s excrement!
What does it say about a country that won’t care for its smallest, most innocent creatures when it had 6 years to build the shelter it promised? And, its equally despicable way of disavowing gays and lesbians!?
Also, please pause for a moment of silence in memory of the equally heinous sled dog massacre in post-Olympics Whistler in 2010 that rocked the world with its inhumanity, as well. It’s all about power and money in this world and the only way we can fight back passively is to say “NO” to the media onslaught and propaganda of consumerism!
So, it's simple really... just CHANGE THE CHANNEL and refuse to watch the Sochi Games. And, in doing so, force others to acknowledge the increasing falseness behind that symbol of World Community Building that is supposed to represent the core ethos of the Olympics.
