Support for Castle Bridge School

  • by: Small Idea Schools

After having been given a site by the Department of Education, Castle Bridge School was recently informed that the site had instead been given to another school. Castle Bridge was further informed that empty school space in District 6 will be kept empty instead of being put to use. The Castle Bridge School will serve a diverse student body that will include children from families impacted by incarceration. The school will employ a child-centered and progressive curriculum. We support diversity of choice for all families and ask that the Department of Education nourish such diversity by finding a space for Castle Bridge School.

We the undersigned became very excited to learn that the Castle Bridge School would be opening in district 6.  Being modeled after CPEI, the school would provide a progressive public school option in a district that does not currently have one.

Unfortunately, we recently learned that the Castle Bridge School has lost the site it had been promised.  We were even more dismayed when we discovered that the space will be going to the KIPP charter school.  There are many schools like KIPP available to us; there are none like Castle Bridge.

Please reconsider your decision.  As parents in the district, we are asking that you give Castle Bridge its site back.  Failing that, please place it in one of the many empty sites available in the district, such as IS90.
