Support the WGA writers - pledge to write or read one night a week instead of watching TV till the s

Target:
Hollywood Executives - Fox, Warner Bros, etc

In support of the Writers' Guild of America's strike for compensation when their work gets streamed on the Internet, sign up here to pledge to read or write yourself instead of watching TV at least one night a week.

Not all Hollywood writers are wealthy and successful - some are "starving artists" who remain unemployed and work second and third jobs between writing gigs. I've personally met some members, actually of the Screenwriters' Guild, and they traveled the country in a trailer performing at poetry slams for extra cash to live on in between gigs - and I'm sure many WGA members are in a similar situation.

Some writers produce content mainly or exclusively intended for the Internet, and the Internet is growing in influence and writers should be compensated for the use of their work.

And - writing/reading on your own will be fun! Whether you produce poetry, a memoir, a novel, short stories, vignettes, even decorated shopping lists - or finally finish that novel you've been meaning to get to someday, you'll open yourself up to new horizons.

I will not promise anything, but I'll do my best to watch the least possible every day. I can't afford entertainment like other people due to a corrupted 114th Precinct that arrested me when I called 911. I can't work or go to school because the woman Yolanda Hardmon bangs on my floor/her ceiling 24/7 for 10 years and the Police and New York City Housing Authority do NOTHING about it!

It doesn't seem that difficult of a concept: The writers finally got money for selling DVD's, and now people are buying less DVD's and are downloading more. All ya gotta do is give em a few cents for each download...

Please start writing again coz we miss our shows and you are gonna lose people. So if there is nobody to watch your shows once you have started writing again, the shows will be cancelled and writers will be out of a job anyhow!

Something to think about: Johnny Depp is speaking out about the writers strike that threatens to Oscars and continues to cripple Hollywood. “We need to get them back working,” he told “Extra” at the Paris premiere of his flick, “Sweeney Todd.”In between signing autographs, the blockbuster star was all smiles in his first public appearance since “Extra’s” own Dayna Devon announced he had won the Golden Globe for his role in the slasher-musical. “I was very surprised certainly,” he admitted. “Flattered. Honored!” Now Johnny could soon have another blockbuster project lined up. His good friend and famed director Tim Burton is reportedly planning a 3-D adaptation of the children’s classic “Alice in Wonderland,” and it’s a good bet Burton could cast Johnny.

I don't actually watch television, ever. But the writers don't deserve poor treatment. Writing is a hard enough business, without those few industries that support it (and, in the case of tv, depend utterly on it for success) demeaning the writers.

I will not sit and allow my favorite TV shows to be assigned to re-runs for one more minute. Without well qualified writers, we will be subjugated to Reality TV and that will be the downfall of the industry. What would shows like LOST, THE OFFICE, or THE WEST WING be like without the efforts of our literary sisters and brothers? Unite now and fight the powers that are cheating people out of their creative rights.

Funny how when I watch something online and the writers don't get paid, it's promotional; yet, when I watch something online and the companies don't get paid, it's PIRACY.

I know all members of a cast behind and in front of the scenes make a show - but really, without writers there is no story. They need the credit they deserve; their words are what allow studio execs and actors to receive royalties - surely they should share in that wealth. I think we've seen enough ad-libbers who really suck. Actors are good at living lines, but not necessarily at creating them. Agree to the writers' terms
