Vote NO on Fast Track and NO on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)

TO CITIZENS OF BOULDER COUNTY, COLORADO

If we want to preserve our right to clean air, water and soil we need to urge our Congressman, Jared Polis to vote against the newest trade bill, called TPP (Trans Pacific Pact.) He is one of the Congressmen that have not yet stated their position  
This is a pivotal week because Congress will be voting this week on whether or not to Fast Track TPP.

This is an unconstitutional, undemocratic agreement that will undermine the Boulder county community's right to self-governance. This petition was started to gather signatures from people in our community who oppose the TPP, and to show our congressional representatives that we value our right to self-governance above foreign intervention. By showing that Boulder County citizens oppose the TPP, it will lend support to our congressional reprentatives casting a NO vote on the TPP in Congress.

Is it important to you to have control over local issues that affect your community?
I for one want to be able to have clean pure water pouring from the taps of my sink.
The thought of what my neighbors in the next county are facing is appalling.
Children playing next to toxic sites, carcinogens 100 feet from homes and playgrounds is not a favorable environment in which to live.

This is a secret trade agreement decided by 600 corporations and some governmental officials that favors corporations over the rights of citizens. This is an unconstitutional, undemocratic agreement that will undermine the Boulder county community's right to self-governance.

This petition was started to gather signatures from people in our community who oppose the TPP, and to show our congressional representatives that we value our right to self-governance above foreign and corporate intervention. By showing that Boulder County citizens oppose the TPP, it will lend support to our congressional representative casting a NO vote on the TPP in Congress.

If this occurs we will lose the freedom to decide our destiny.
It is written into this trade agreement that foreign corporations can decide that if the profits that they expected to gain from investments don't pan out they can sue us in foreign tribunals, with no democratic oversight, and collect what they thought they should have earned.

This seems utterly preposterous to me, how do you feel?

Potentially our hard-won moratoriums, earned through protest and petitioning can be overturned on a whim.

Other whimsical approaches in this bill are:
Companies will be encouraged and compensated to outsource jobs.
Drug companies are being allowed to extend their patents so that generic drugs will be pulled from the market.
Going to the store and getting an inexpensive prescription will no longer be a reality.
Health care costs will rise.
The idea that American wages will be compromised, as has happened when NAFTA took effect, will be our new reality.
I don't want to hear, "will you have fries with that," as one of the few options left for a growing population with fewer and fewer options.
Let us imagine a new future. Where we decide our futures and depend less on the allure of a global economy.
Outsourced jobs, a polluted environment and low wages will be just some of the results of the TPP.
