Say NO!! to open season on kangaroos

Tell Gordon Wyre that allowing untrained, unregulated members of the public to shoot kangaroos at any time of the year is unethical, and not in the interests of conservation.
Dear Mr Wyre,

We the undersigned ask that you urgently reconsider asking councils to approve of new policies which will involve their shires to allow recreational shooters to shoot roos on rural lands without any DEC licensing required, and to allow for open seasons that will be declared by the DEC at certain times of the year.I have grave concerns for the fate of kangaroos and joeys that face horrific injuries with slow and painful deaths due to the lack of regulation on the type of firearm used to shoot, and the lack of training in ethical shooting techniques by DEC.  I also foresee huge strains being placed on wildlife shelters and home-carers due to the increase in orphaned or injured joeys needing 24 hour care after their mothers have been shot.I also have concerns for the safety of people involved if every man and his dog is allowed to go out and shoot roos without proper authorisation or training. This issue is one of animal welfare and as Director of DEC's nature conservation branch, I believe you should be focussing on more ethical alternatives to controlling roo numbers.

Thank you for re-considering.
