IN HONOR OF ROBIN JEANETTE SHARTZER, a beloved and loving wife of 19 years, beloved and  loving mother to two prescious children, beloved and loved by hundreds of family members and close personal friends, an outgoing, optimistic, filled with life, love and laughter woman who lost a hard fought battle against the monster known as Pancreatic Cancer.  Even though chemo failed and the cancer spread, she was still fighting to promote awareness for Pancreatic Cancer Research to the very end.   This petition is to help fulfill her goal and to honor the wishes of the strongest woman I've ever known....my beloved and prescious daughter, ROBIN JEANETTE SHARTZER!

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth (4th) leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Yearly, about 46,420 people will be diagnosed with the disease and 39,590 will die from it, according to the National Cancer Institute. The FDA has ONLY approved three (3) treatments in the past 20 years for advanced pancreatic cancer!   THIS IS NOT ENOUGH & FAR TOO SLOW! WHAT PRICE DOES THE FDA PUT ON A HUMAN LIFE!!!

AWARENESS OF PANCREATIC CANCER AND FUNDING ARE CRITICAL IN SUPPORTING ADVANCEMENTS FOR THE RESEARCH OF PANCREATIC CANCER, BUT THE FUNDING FOR GENETIC MAPPING ALONE HAS NOT INCREASED SINCE 2006!!

The Federal Government continues to cut funding of pancreatic cancer research efforts significantly! These cuts come at the very same time that the leading edge technology of genetic mapping has MAJOR LEADS TO PURSUE!
2001 - there was a 9% cut in research funding by the federal government.
2006 - There was another 5-6% cut in research funding, despite inflation and the extremely high cost of genetic mapping!
2015 - STILL NO INCREASE IN RESEARCH FUNDS!!!! This means that research is doing much LESS than it was able to do ten years ago, despite a track record of considerable success!

As just one example, Johns Hopkins began genetic mapping of Pancreatic Cancer in 1994 and has made huge advancements in finding genes besides BRCA1 & BRCA2 that are linked to Pancreatic Cancer. However, without funding from the federal government and private sector, they cannot advance! GENETIC MAPPING IS THE ANSWER TO FINDING A CURE AND WE MUST PUSH FOR FUNDING!

YOU can make a difference and help overcome these cuts to pancreatic cancer research by:
1) Signing this petition and sharing it with everyone you know in honor of Robin Jeanette Shartzer!
and
2) Email Robert.Dubbs@obermayer.com, the man in charge of FDAs NCI SPORE funding to insist on more funding for GENETIC MAPPING RESEARCH in honor of Robin Jeanette Shartzer!
AND/OR
3) Making a donation to the NATIONAL PANCREATIC CANCER FOUNDATION at: 800-859-6723 in honor of Robin Jeanette Shartzer!
- OR -
