A dog has been gunned down/decapitated in an out-of-control neighbor dispute. Please do not let animal cruelty go unpunished!

On New Year's Day, 2010, just blocks from my home, an ugly dispute ended in a man fatally shooting his neighbor's dog (literally blowing its head off,) a 3-year old boxer named Johnnie Moe.  The shooter admitted to the sheriffs that the dog was posing no threat to him or his property at the time of the shooting, but he has since crafted a story of fear for his family and his property.

Kitsap is a rural county in western Washington, west of Seattle across the Puget Sound. The news article is brief; not much detail. If the dog had killed the man, the story would have made the national news; because it was the other way around, it merely made the 911 section of the local paper.

More than a month later, Kitsap County prosecutors finally charged the man with just two misdemeanors: reckless endangerment and killing a pet animal. The maximum penalty he will receive is one year in jail and/or a $5,000 fine.

The goal of this group and petition is to see to it that the man charged with this crime spends every single minute of that year in jail and pays the full fine of $5,000. Send Kitsap County the message that the world is watching them and companion animals should not be treated as colateral damage in a neighbor dispute!

We the undersigned request the maximum penalty of 1 year imprisonment and a $5,000 fine be given to the Port Orchard, WA man, Aaron Laws, charged with killing a pet animal and reckless endangerment. 

Aaron Laws killed Johnnie Moe on New Year's Day, 2010, apparently because of a heated dispute with his neighbor, Johnnie Moe's owner. 

Thank you for prosecuting this man. We ask you to be sure this man receives the maximum penalty for this horrific crime against an innocent animal. Please help enforce stricter penalties for people who commit crimes against animals. Thank you for keeping our families and our pets safe.
