Stop the government's mass murder of stray dogs in Duitama, Colombia

  • by: Rene van Gestel
  • recipient: Secretary of Health, Rosa Ana Angerita Rojas

During what remains of this year, the Catholic town of Duitama, Colombia, plans to recollect and kill 700 dogs because some of its residents consider these loyal creatures a nuisance. Unless they're picked up and paid for by their owners within four days, death is guaranteed. The Secretary of Health claims that a 26-year-old law allows them to 'clean the streets' in this heartless fashion, supposedly to teach people a lesson about responsible ownership, yet in fact they are teaching the children and other inhabitants that the lives of animals have no value and that they should be treated as trash.

Education and spaying/neutering are the key, not the eradication of a loving species.

Please tell the Secretary of Health to stop killing innocent creatures and to invest in better solutions to the stray animal issue by signing this petition.
