Tell the McKean County Commissioners "Do not tear down the fire tower on Prospect!"

The fire tower on Prospect has been a landmark since it was originally constructed in the 1920s. It was replaced in 1967 by the present structure, which is 20' taller than the original. It is two years shy of being eligible for protection as a historical landmark. The Mckean County Comissioners want to tear it down and erect a communications tower in its place.

The fire tower has been there for all of our lives. Anytime you look toward Prospect you can see it. It is in our local vernacular. When someone says "the fire tower," there is no doubt as to what they are referencing.

The tower is part of our historical heritage and should be kept. It would have already been torn down but there is evidently an issue with the FCC paperwork for the new tower. Please sign this petition to preserve it.

To the mckean CCounty Coomissioners:

We, the undersigned individuals, urge you, the Mckean County Commissioners, to NOT tear down the fire tower on prospect. It is a landmark and part of our lives. There had been a fire tower on that spot since the 1920s, and while the present structure, built in 1967, is no longer used for its original purpose, it is a significant part of this McKean County's cultural heritage.

It has always been there anytime we look at Prospect.  It is in our local vernaclular. When someone says "the fire tower" we know exactly to what they are referring. Every day we lose more of our cultural heritage. Please do not let the fire tower on Prospect be part of that loss.
