Cruel Catch a Pig Contest Must Go!

Despite receiving a petition of over 3,400 signatures demanding the Catch a Pig Contest be canceled, the fair board held the event at the Wood County Fair in Bowling Green, Ohio this past Monday August 8, 2016. Photographs clearly captured the cruel and inhumane treatment meted out to the pigs. This, despite the chairman of the event' promises to the local newspaper “to make the pigs as comfortable as possible.”

Clearly, the fair board will not or simply cannot ensure the pigs will be treated humanely. For this reason, the Catch a Pig Contest must go! We are calling on the end of this 50 year barbaric tradition. We can do better. We demand better!

Experienced veterinarian, Dr. Bonnie Yoff, spoke out strongly against a similar pig chase in California. Having previously served as the medical chief of staff at the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA, she certainly has the credentials to speak to the inherent dangers of the event. Referring to the possibility of the pigs having their limbs pulled out from them or dragged, she stated, “This is a painful, terrifying, and dangerous ordeal for the pigs, who can sustain severe injuries such as broken limbs and backs, as well as muscle trauma and joint dislocations.”

Photographs from the event clearly reveal the pigs were handled in this manner and were at risk of serious injury. Please be a voice for these innocent animals by signing this petition right away! To increase your impact, leave a comment as well. Time is of the essence! The fair board will be soon scheduling events for next year's fair.

Thank you for Signing and Sharing this petition! Together we can and will put an end to this unnecessary cruelty!
