Expansion of the Michigan City Riverfront Liquor License

There is a proposal to expand the Riverfront liquor license that would create opportunity for new restaurants to come to downtown Michigan City. Restaurants are crucial to create foot traffic in the downtown area, which will help all businesses downtown, food related and otherwise. This is not just a proposal that affects individual businesses but one that will positively impact Michigan City as a whole. The approval of this proposal will bring Michigan City to the next level and help the city compete with other neighboring cities. Similar licenses have been approved in Valparaiso, Crown Point, & South Bend and the evidence showing the positive impact it has created is abundant.  All of these cities have seen a "reawakening" of their downtown, the driving force behind this has been offering more liquor licenses into the area. There is opposition to this proposal but the evidence in other communities clearly shows a positive impact. We urge all to look into the cities proposal and make an educated decision as to their stance. There will be a crucial meeting at city hall on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 6.30pm. The vote will likely take place on March 21st. If anyone can show up in person at the March 7th meeting to show support it would help immensely. Please show your support by signing this petition.

We support the decision already passed (unanimously) by the redevelopment commision to pass this proposal.  We urge the council to do what is best for the whole of Michigan City and it's residents, please pass this proposal.
