OUTLAW THE USE OF EUTHANIZED PETS IN PET FOOD, LIVESTOCK FEED, AND COSMETICS

Although most major brand pet food manufacturers deny that they use euthanized shelter animals in pet food, the fact remains that it is done, and it is legal. Euthanized animals are rendered into meat meal, and meat-by-products at numerous locations. Current FDA rules allow dogs and cats to be fed to dogs and cats.

13 million cats and dogs are euthanized each year in shelters in the United States. Approximately 5.2 million of these animals are "rendered" at processing facilities, along with such other flesh as roadkill. This is ground and steam-cooked, resulting in fatty material rising to the surface of the vats. This material is used in the manufacture of products such as cosmetics, lubricants, soaps, candles, and waxes. The protein from the animals is dried and ground into a powder (1/4 of which is fecal material). This powder, labeled "protein concentrate" is used in pet foods and livestock feed (so you too, could be eating cats and dogs 2nd hand by consuming meat from the livestock that was fed this product).

Cats and dogs are being legally rendered and recycled into food for cats and dogs! This is unacceptable to the American people, and we demand strict regulations and the outlawing of the use of pets in pet food, livestock feed, and toiletries.
