STOP FRACKING IN THE NAVAHO CHACO CANYON WORLD HERITAGE SITE

A Federal Judge has recently refused to grant a temporary halt to oil-and-gas-drilling in the greater Chaco Canyon Ruins which is among the most important in the World. It contains the finest example of Anasazi Pueblo Ruins in New Mexico. This unique, remote World Heritage Site attracts Tourists from around the world. Primitive roads connect this site of large, fabulous ruins which have outstanding architectural and astronomical connections, to various outlying Anasazi communities. Chaco Canyon is considered the "capital" of the ancient Anasazi world. Research has been done there for over 100 years, where as many as 5, 000 people once lived. Artifacts represent connection to Mexico and the ancient Toltecs. This area is pristine and must be preserved. A coalition of Navaho and other environmental groups had filed a law suit against the BLM regarding the drilling plan. The plan if approved will allow hundreds of fracking permits. Native land belongs to the Natives and the Federal Government has no true business there claiming rights to it. Environmental Impact Studies have not been done by the BLM. Please sign and pass this petition as soon as possible. Time is crucial to save Chaco Canyon.

Dear Bureau of Land Management,

Please find enclosed 304 signatures from people who protest the fracking around Chaco Canyon, A World Heritage Site of significant scientific and human value. We ask you to refrain from hurting this fragile and precious place.

Sincerely,

JM Aurnague

Update #18 years ago
I want to thank each of you for signing this important petition. The U.S.A. is being fraught with fracking without consideration to sacred, fragile sites and in general the Earth's ecosystem.
I am given hope when conscious people show they care. The Native Americans deserve to have their Heritage Sites respected. I have sought signatures from a variety of sources, but it seems people are too busy to sign. I will continue to reach out.
Best wishes to each of you!!
