New York holds these practices illegal but do not seem to enforce the law strongly enough to catch the offenders and save the birds from fighting to their demise.
New York has been making efforts in rescuing more than 3,000 fighting roosters as part of their major cockfighting busts throughout the state. Just recently in Brooklyn, a cockfighting setup was found in a local pet shop, along with upstate farms and storefronts in Queens. Most of the birds captured had their spurs removed and replaced with razor-sharp barbs meant to fatally harm their opponents. The investigators in this case also found syringes used to inject performance-enhancing drugs as well as candle wax, medical tape and other cockfighting contraband.
These animals suffer horrifically but these cockfighting rings, farms and training facilities continue to go undetected. Officials are working with the ASPCA to enforce stricter laws on protecting these animals. New York Law Enforcers, State’s Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and the ASPCA – We thank you for your continued efforts in cracking down on all these cockfighting rings throughout the state of New York. Too many of these farms continue to exist for the purpose of raising and training these roosters to fight and the law needs to be more strictly enforced so that these cockfighting activities are put to an end!! It is disgusting to begin with that people find pleasure in animals fighting each other to their bloody demise! Stop these cockfighting rings, the farms and facilities that train them!
