OUR KIDS DESERVE BETTER

  • by: Cathy R
  • recipient: Dr. Karen Sullivan, Superintendent of Indian Prairie School District 204, Aurora, IL

After our kids graduate from the 12th grade they transition in to District 204 STEPS (Supported Training Experiences Post Secondary) program. A vital part which allows them to maintain structure in their school day, help them achieve more independence and get them ready for the "real world".
You can find out more information if you were to go onto IPSD.org website.

Most recently the STEPS program has been in the spotlight for all of the wrong reasons. The classrooms are over-crowded, the buildings are in desperate need of repair and it seems like the district has gone backwards when it comes to our older children.

OUR KIDS DESERVE BETTER!

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to:
1) Make the STEPS Building ADA Compliant.
2) Provide monthly water tests to parents and staff until the well can be removed from the building.
3)Provide parents and community members with a comprehensive plan on what is being done short term and long term to address overcrowding at STEPS.

The lines of communications have opened up with Dr. Sullivan, she has listened to our concerns and is planning to meet with us as a group to discuss possible plans for STEPS short term solutions for the up-coming school year.
As we appreciate the opportunity to meet with Dr. Sullivan, we need to continue to spread the word. The bigger the group, the bigger the VOICE!
