A dedicated (obsessed!) group of meerkat lovers has generated a petition to bring back Meerkat Manor. Meerkat Manor was a serial docudrama featuring meerkats--diminutive creatures that strive to survive in the harsh environment of the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa. Their groups have a complex social structure, resembling that of humans with all our idiosyncrasies, joys, and tragedies. Their social behavior is so endearing to watch that, once hooked, it's hard to not want to see more of them.NOTE: ONLY YOUR NAME (OPTIONAL) AND COUNTRY APPEAR ON THE PETITION.

LETTER TO NETWORK PROGRAM COMMISSIONING EXECUTIVES

Dear Program Executive:

We the petitioners would like to see the return of the delightful program, Meerkat Manor, a program featuring meerkats--diminutive creatures that strive to survive in the harsh environment of the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa. A dedicated group of meerkat lovers has generated this petition in order to entice a television network to pick up the program, Meerkat Manor.

Meerkat Manor is a serial docudrama, carried by Animal Planet for four years. It has not yet had a fifth year.  It was nominated for and/or received numerous awards.  The program had a huge following and, in fact, caused the generation of many meerkat-related websites. There was considerable international media coverage upon the deaths of some of its main characters, in particular Flower, the beloved matriarch.

The groups have a complex social structure, resembling that of humans with all our idiosyncrasies, joys, and tragedies. Their social behavior is so endearing to watch that, once hooked, it's hard to not want to see more of them.

One important consequence of this series is that it bolsters support for the ongoing research into the survival methods of other species besides humans. In the case of meerkats, the study of their cooperative behavior can lead to some insights into human behavior. Humans are a cooperative species as well. Preserving undisturbed habitats is important in order to conduct such research. If we are to have a "greener" earth, awareness of, and respect for the intelligence of other species is a fundamental need.

Please bring back this joyful and important series. The docudrama format and fascinating individual and group interactions make this series an enticing program to watch.  As indicated by the number of petition signers, you have a sufficient audience to seriously consider adding this series to your programming.

Thank you for considering our petition.

Sincerely,

Meerkat Manor provided people with not only an entertaining show, but it had a hands on educational value that no text book or classroom could ever show. My fiancee and I laughed and cried at most of the episodes as well as learning a thing or two about a species that we had not known too much about.

Although filming has been stopped, could you at least provide an update of what has happened to some of the main meerkats since the final episode was aired?

though it's painful to watch many of the lovely faces vanishing, it gives me so much joy to see these tiny but strong creatures fight to survive in Kalahari. Don't stop filming and give us more and more seasons.

Pleae bring back Meerkat Manor. That was really the only show on Animal Planet that I would watch faithfully. I really miss seeing them and whats been going on with them, and of course there's nothing on the web about whats happened to them. I can't beleive the reserach is finished on them. Please bring back this show

I have been watching Meerkat Manor from the very first series, and have enjoyed it immensely none stop! Apart from being the cutest little things I have even seen, I have sat and watched in awe at how interesting it is to learn about the way they live their lives in the wilds of the Kalahari Desert in Africa. I absolutely LOVED the last series! But now "Animal Planet" are repeating it again, and again, and it gets a little boring after a while, just to watch them being put through exactly the same paces again and again. *sigh!* I felt very sad when poor Flower was killed by a deadly snake, and it's sad just to keep watching her after death scenes again and again. :( So.... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE......... BRING BACK MEERKAT MANOR FOR A BRAND SPANKING NEW SERIES! Regards, P. 8-)

Although I am a huge fan of Stockard Channing, I think Sean Astin does a better job narrating.
