Stop killing the dumpster bears near Busteni, Romania

  • recipient: SPCA Romania, Romanian Government

As we speak barbaric killing of our wild bears at the outskirts of Busteni, Romania is taking place. Already 2 animals have been shot and killed and more will meet the same cruel fate in the following days. The bears are drawn to the city because of the town's garbage dumpsters located at the edge of Busteni and it is no wonder that their instinct for foraging for food and for getting an easy meal they would head for the town's dumpsters. These are animals acting instinctively, they do not mean us harm.  People around the world join me and let's put an end to such barbaric actions. Let's urge Romanian authorities to find humane means of preventing the bears from getting so close to the town. Bears deserve to live in dignity and respect. If there's a will, there's a way. Thank you all for your support in this matter!

Dear Prime Minister,

These majestic animals deserve to live in dignity and to be respected. These days are dark days for our wildlife, for us who love and respect nature, for all Romanians who care about their legacy for the future generations. The dumpster bears problem is not new to the authorities and yet no humane and efficient solutions were adopted during all this time. It is high time Romanian authorities showed their competence. It is high time Romania showed it cares about its wildlife. Please urge the local authorities of the town of Busteni to stop the killing at once, to stop encouraging such barbaric actions and to adopt humane measures for managing the situation of the dumpster bears. It is imperative to protect our nature and our wildlife, for the future of each and every one of us. Thank you!
