Every year hundreds of balloons are released by Relay For Life to show how much we care about cancer. It is beautiful to watch, but what goes up must come down, and when these balloons do drop the results are not good.
These balloons are made of a material that when floating in water resembles many species of marine animals which are prey for things like sea turtles, sea birds, and others. When consumed, they almost always lead to death due to choking or digestive system failure.
On land, the strings of these balloons resemble vegitation, which is eaten by herbivores and has the same effect on them as what it does to marine life.
It is estimated that around 100,000 marine mammals and 1,000,000 sea birds die each year due to pollution like these balloons. If you would like to see this terrible statistic drop, then please sign to ban the release of balloons by Relay For Life. It only does harm.
